The big winner was John
Williams’ Pan Pacific Hotel. Se-
cond tree winner was B.C. Tel
while the third place winner was
the Vancouver Port Corporation.

The winner of the celebrity
Christmas tree seedlings competi-
tion for the most money donated
was a tie! The two winners. both
with $100, were Richard Dean
Anderson, the star of the TV
series MacGyver, and CBC-TV
weatherman, Phil Reimer.

Second was North Shore's rock
star, Bryan Adams, with $60,
while | was third with $50! So 1
do want to thank everyone who
came in and voted for ms
“Charlie Brown” effort.

The convention centre also had
a Silver Wing Holiday prize draw
of a trip for two to Reno. The
winner’s name was Jordan Hut-
chison of North Vancouver. When
the VT&CC people phoned that
evening to te!lt Jordan of the prize
win, a lady answered the phone
and said, ‘‘Jordan won! How
wonderful! Let me wake her up
and you can tell her!”

Seems that it was Jordan's dad
who entered her name in the
draw. Jordan Hutchison is seven
years old!...

Best news of all for the VT&CC
is that they managed to raise
$19,000 on the corporate trees,
$430 on the celebrity seedlings and
$2,925.40 on the draw box for a
grand total of $22,355.40 for
Children’s Hospital!

Bon voyage to dedicated
movieman, Bob Gray, one of the
peopie behind the incredible suc-
cess of Look Who's Taiking one
and two. Co-producer Bob Gray
and his pretty wife, Connie Gray,
have left for a vacation to Los
Angeles to visit friends and then
take off on a cruise to Mexico!
They really became hooked on
cruising when Bob acted as pro-
duction manager for vears on the
famous Love Boat TV series...

Belated birthday grectings today

to two North Shore celebrities.
This particular gentlesnan has
brought so much joy and delight
to so many people in this province
over the years that it’s a pleasure
to wish him Many Happy
Returns.

On Jan. 3, 81 years ago, a tiny
bundle of pure joy was born. This
gentleman has stayed tiny, physi-
cally, that is, throughout his
powerhouse career as a feature
writer, sports editor, author and
top of the morning columnist!

He lived for a long time on the
West Van waterfront, moved to
Haddon Drive in the Properties
and now dwells in an apartment
across from Lions Gate Hospital
in North Van. He’s a loving hus-
band to his wife, Katie, who's a
resident of Evergreen House, and
a good friend to all who know
him, the Jewish leprechaun
himself, puaster extraordinaire
and one of the nicest people !

Happy 81st, Himie!...

The other gentleman of note is
CKNW's open line host and
North Vanner, Rafe Mair. Rafe is
a native son, born in Grace Hos-
pital in Vancouver to his happy
parents on New Year's Eve, 1931.
(Unfortunately his charming
mother, Frankie Mair, passed
away only days earlier, which
naturally dampened the festive
season for the family.)

A former lawyer, pohtictan,
award-winning broadcaster and a
fishing fanatic, Rafe and wife,
Patti, marked his birthday, and
New Year's Eve, with a quiet
gathering of close friends at a
zourmet dinner — at home! Hap-
py 59th birthday, Rafe!...

Speaking of good food, that’s
exactly what Michael Jackson and
Graeme Black are offering in their
new restaurant.

These two have owned Dem
Bones in Richmond for five years,
and three weeks ago they expand-
ed into the heart of Vancouver, to
the corner of Homer and Davie,
the location formerly occupied by
Chicago Pizza. The new Dem
Bones is very spacious with more
than 200 seats, a very enthusiastic
staff and wonderful food.

And | must warn you, we are
not talking ‘Nouvelle Cuisine”’
here. When you leave, you'll
definitely feel like you’ve had
your money’s worth of good
food. My suggestion is — go and
go hungry! ... Cheers!
