AN American woman
involved in a 1998 car
crash that killed a
North. Vancouver
woman. and her friend
is suing the manufac-
turer of the diet drug
she was taking at the
time of the crash.
Monique Ishikawa, 19, and
Port Conuitlam’s Kimberley
Brooks, 18, were waiting in
line at the Peace Arch border
crossing on May 30, 1998,
when Julia Campagna, of
Kirkland, Wash., drove her
Pontiac Grand Prix into the
girls’ Honda Accord, causing
the Accord to explode into
flames. Both girls were killed
instantly.

Ishikawa wants Campagna

deaths of the nwo girls.

“I don’t know if she’s even
capable of doing that, though,”
he said. “There’s obviously
something wrong with her in
her inability to take responsibil-
ity in her actions. She saw noth-
ing wrong with Ariving i in an
intoxicated state.”

He said he is currently in
consultation with the Brooks
family — and other drivers that
sustained injuries in the inci-
