NV MP White to
supoort Bill C-68

want their MP to support con-
tentious gun legislation now
before the House of Commons.

North .Vancouver. Reform MP Ted
White said he will heed the publie’s wish,
even though it goes against his view.

White reiterated the Reform party's
firmly entrenched position while strafing
the Liberal’s legislation, telling the News
the bill is a money-waster.

He said Bill C-68 supporters will like-
ly be disappointed in a year’s time, when
they look back on expensive legislation
that does nothing to slow crime.

“The plain fact is that 50 years of
handgun registration in Canada has not
curtailed the use of handguns by crimi-
nals, so itis unlikely that registering rifles
and shoiguns will have any effect either,”
stated White.

He advocates strengthening legislation
to help police convict criminals,

“At the moment.” -he added, “there is
just insufficient sentences being given to°
people.”

Results of a May 24 and 25 poll com-
missioned by White in his riding show
56% af 302 respondents would vote in
favor of Bill C-68, 26% would. vote
against it, while 16% are undecided.

Lutz worries that if she loses her 20-hour-a--

week job, she will lose her benefits such as dental,
extended health and group life insurance.

She said she may be able to get a {5-hour-per-
week position as a teacher's assistant or supervisor,
but her benefits would be lost because she will
work less than 16 hours per week.
