Mechanic’s helping hand leads to serious injuries RON GULLEY’S attempt to be a friend in need backfired, resulting in serious burns which have put his livelihood at risk. By Kate Zimmerman News Reporter The North Vancouver mechanic was called out Aug. 18 by his cus- tomer and friend Daricen Lane, whose car had stalled behind a North Vancouver supermarket. Thinking the problem was an air-lock, Gulley did to the car what he had successfully done before: he poured gasoline into the carburetor. The vehicle started, then stopped, started again, then stopped. On the third try, a fire developed in the carburetor and, unbeknownst to Gulley, a vapor trail formed. Realizing something was wrung, the 49-year-old man threw the gas container away, but gas spilled up his arm and was ignited by the vapor trail. “] had a major fire on my arm,” Gulley recalled. “I put my arm between my knees and used my left arm to smother the fire.” Gulley proceeded to blow out Negative stress From page 3 of the quality (of life) for our chil- dren. Canadian Immigration officials got a warrant for Hall’s arrest in connection with a charge of being in Canada unlawfully.
