Luna, reflecting on how the
master film-maker is able to
recall in a matter of minutes
an entire story through
dream-like flashbacks.

“NUS so symbolic it’s like poet-
ty,” the Lions Bay
cinematographer gushes, ‘a
perfect scene.”’

It's not just the director's sense
of poetry he reveres — Bertoluc-
ci’s work has unquestionably left
its mark on Burstyn’s life and ca-
reer, along with such sweeping
screen classics as Lawrence o1
Arabia, Dr. Zhivago and Wim
Wender's stark and moving Wings
of Desire — it’s also the film-
maker's intimate relationship with
his principal cinematographer, Vit-
torio Storaro. It is an alliance that
he still reveres to this day.

“Storaro (who was the
cinematographer on The Con-
formist, a film which has been
called “a compendium of all
cinema language up to its time’) is
head and shoulders above other
cinematographers,”’ says Burstyn.

“He has such an incredible
Baroque style. It’s so rich, and
every image has layers of meaning.
You get the sense that there's real
collaboration going on between

Reforming the Health System
on the North Shore
PUBLIC MEETINGS

The Royal Commission on Health Care & Costs recommended better
coordination, improved planning and more public participation in deci-
sions affecting our health.
A Planning Committee will guide this procass on the North Shore
(including Lions Bay and Bowen Island), With public involvement, it will
develop the vision for improvements to cur health system and create the
organization to bring about change. This will likely include the merging of
the Union Board of Health and the Regional Hospital District.
This Planning Committee will be chosen following consultation with the
public and over one hundred health-related organizations on the North
ore,
Public meetings are scheduled at the following times for any member of
the public who would like more information and/or wishes to be involved
in planning for the reformed system.
May 26 2pm-3:30pm Gleneagles Golf Club, West Vancouver .
May 27 2:30pm-4pm —_Delbroo’ Recreation Centre, North Vancouver
May 27 7pm-8:30pm Gleneagles Golf Club, West Vancouver
