approves
upgrading

left the North Vancouver District
Council meeting Monday night
reasonably pleased with the ap-
proval of road upgrades in their
neighborhood.

Area residents had formed an
improvement committee and ap-
peared as a delegation before
council in June to request more
than just the resurfacing of the
long and narrow cul de sac that
services the Seycove Marina and
some 130 residences in Deep
Cove.

At that time they had argued
that the road was hazardous for

pedestrians, who were forced to ;

waik in the road besause of a lack
of sidewalks. Pedestrians faced
the additional hazards of two
blind bends and poor street
lighting at night.

Aad while some of ihe residents
feared the loss of parking spots in
front of their property, most were
satisfied that the district had done
as much as possible to widen and
straighten the narrow road, im-
prove street lighting and improve
pedestrian safciy.

Alda Silkalns, chairperson of
the residents improvement com-
mittec, congratulated council on
its action and thanked the
district's engineering staff for
working with the residents.
