WV resident lobbies
council for sidewalk

THE COMPETITION for the
$210,000 West Vancouver District
has tentatively budgeted for side-
walks has already begun.

With council’s annual review of
the proposed 1991 budget coming
up, local resident and frequent
council critic Lionel Lewis
repeated his request on Jan. 28
for a sidewalk on 20th Street that
would run from Bellevue Avenue
to Marine Drive.

“I’s a short stretch of street
serving the West Vancouver Me-
morial Library,’’ Lewis said.

The strs<i is a major pedestrian
route for access to the library, he
said, and a sidewalk into it would
serve approximately 1,200 residen-
tial units.

“As it is, we have to walk in
the middle of the road,’’ com-
plained Lewis.

He added that a new sidewalk
built recently for access to a
school (which would have priority
in sidewalk allocation) was recent-
ly used by just 20 students in one
day.

district collection.
