Photo submitted North Van residents win BCIT awards THE NORTH Shore was well rep- resented at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) scholarship awards ceremony this year, as local residents accounted for 12 of the award presentations. Scholarship awards are pres- ented to students who achieve the highest grades in their Cirst year of a technology program. The follow- ing North Vancouver residents won scholarship awards: Steve Fenwick, a mechanical technology student, won a $£00 scholarship award from BC Hydro; Nils H. D. Nelson, a hospitality ad- ministration student, who won the $500 Hotel Vancouver achievement award; Erin Willcox, a marketing and tourism management student, who won a $200 achievement award from Karo Design Resources Inc.; Lynda Huntley, a biological sciences student, who won a $200 achievement award from Canada Packers Inc.; Kirk F, ‘duen, a building technology stu- dent, who was awarded $168 as his share of the Gary Barr Memorial Award; Laura J. BCIT’s 1989 awards ceremony was one of the largest in recent years, with a total of 169 students receiving awards with a total cash value of $70,235. Individual awards ranged from book prizes to four-year scholarship funds worth $8,000. Most of the funding for BCIT's annual scholarship and achieve- ment awards comes from cor- porate donations. Private endow- ments and special grants from various BCIT departments make up the balance of the funding.
