In the boys’. championship singles for under-14, third seeded Russell Stuart from West Van- couver defeated Matthew Walsh, No. 4, of North Vancouver 6-2, 61 Stuart, teamed with Jerry Turek of Coquitlam, also took the under-14 = doubles, edging out Ramin Pegan and Chris Santoso 61, 6-4. In the boys’ A singles finals under-14, fifth seeded Jesse Hawkins of North Vancouver defeated Matthew Dickson of Vancouver 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Tt is not yet confirmed that these players will be going to the na- tionals in August but Gary Winter of Tennis B.C. said the results from thé B.C. Junior Closed Tournament play a strong role in determining national selection. Jeyaseelan may be representing B.C. at the nationals in up to three age categories. ‘‘It would be set- ting a precedent,’’ said Winter, adding that Tennis B.C. and Ten- nis Canada would be deciding if Jeyaseelan will be allowed to play in the under-18s. If she does play in all three, Jeyaseelan will be travelling to Quebec, Toronto and the Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver for the under-14, 16 and 18 categories respectively. In July Jeyaseelan will be going to West Germany and the Netherlands for a total of four tournaments, including the World Youth Cup, before returning to Canada to play in the Sunlife Na- tionals.
