GVYRD SEEKS iNPUT

Public invited to recycling meeting

THE GREATER Vancouver
Regional District has scheduled an
injtial series of public meetings on
recycling that will begin Tuesday,
Feb. 14 at the Best Western Kings
Inn, 5411 Kingsway in Burnaby,
Starting at 7 p.m.

A second round of public
meetings wili take place in April
following release of an interim
recycling report. Included in the
subsequent round will be an April
6 session at North Vancouver's
Silver Harbour Centre, 144 East
22nd St. starting at 7:30 p.m.

The GVRD has retained consul-
fants to prepare a regional multi-
material recycling program and
wants input from residents

for tourism meal

THERE IS still time to purchase
tickets for the North Shore
Tourism Committee's annual
tourism breakfast on Feb. 14 at
Park Royal Shopping Cenire.

Tickets are $5 which includes a
continental-style breakfast and a
chance for local businesses, mer-
chants and residents to learn how
they may tap into B.C.’s growing
tourism industry.

The breakfast features keynote
speaker Tom Walker, marketing
director of Tourism Vancouver,
and guest speaker local MLA John
Reynolds.

In conjunction with the tourism
launch, the Nort’ Shore News will
be publishing its second annual
North Shore Tourism supplement
May 17,

The breakfast begins at 7:30
a.m. at Park Royal's north mall.

West Vancouver Mayor Don
Lanskail and North Vancouver
District Mayor Marilyn Baker will
join a GYRD contingent travelling
Wednesday to Seattle to examine
that city’s ambitious recycling
program.

Seattle is aiming to recycle be-
tween 60 and 80 per cent of its
waste.

The GVRD meetings will explain
where recycling fits in to its solid
waste disposal plans, will look at
the work plans of the GVRD’s
consultants, and will examine the
recycling plans of other cities such
as Seattle.
