IF IF YOU'RE hun hung up on hang gliding, Grouse. Mountain is the place to be this week. The Sixth Annual World Invitational Hang Gliding Championship continues until this Sunday with at least 100 pilots from around the world competing for $5,000 in prize money. The event is rated as the finest meet in Canada and ranks with the top meets in North America. The unique, \highly en- tertaining meet starts today with a series of three-men matches. The top 20 pilots will be determined Saturday, and the final round held Sunday. Award presentations will follow the racing on Sunday. The best vantage point comes from a ride up the Peak chairlift, from which the launchings can be seen. Flying begins at 10 a.m. daily, finishing at 4 p.m. Accumulated points from seven one-on-one matches and the Open Window match will determine the overall winner. During the Open Window match, staying aloft the longest is the key to success. The event tests the ability-of a pilot to read conditions and maintain altitude during times of no lift. In one-on-ones, pilots are judged on their ability to soar and speed. Open class gliders will be used, so spectators will have the opportunity to see the highest performance hang gliders on the market.
