Vancouver girl said a fire
prevention course she had
taken at school gave her the
know-how to put out a fire in
her home Thursday.

Tracy Cooper was making

popcorn at her home at 2166
Dollarton Highway Thur-
sday afternoon when the
cooking oil she was using
overheated and caught fire.

She phoned the fire
department but by the time
they arrived she had put out
the fire.

She had poured baking
powder into the pan of oil
and then put a lid on it.

She says she learned what
to do at a fire prevention
course given at her school by
the North Vancouver
District Fire Department.
