Auto show hits B.C. Place FOR 10 days, the 71st Pacific In- ternational Auto Show will fill B.C. Place Stadium with Van- couver’s largest showcase of new cars and automotive products from around the world. The show runs from Friday, Jan. 18 to Sunday, Jan. 27. The new 1991 models from the major manufacturers — along with hundreds of products and services to enhance auto style and performance, rare specialty cars, prototypes, exciting features and contests — will occupy thousands of feet of exhibit space. Over 500 cars will be on display. Manufacturers will unveil their mewest models and reveal new technology and design for 1991. The Accord wagon from Hon- da, the Jeep YJ Renegade, the Dodge Stealth, the NX Coupe from Nissan and the sporty and affordable Lexus ES 250 will be introduced. Volvo is adding a new series of cars, designated the 940 line. Suzuki will feature its four-door Sidekick and Toyota will display its totally redesigned Tercel. Lux- ury classics including Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maserati, Ferrari and Cadillac, and European favorites like Lotus, Citroen and Alfa Romeo will also be featured. Together with their 1991 lineup, manufacturers will feature con- cepts of possible future models. The Toyota concept 4500GT, capable of speeds in excess of 300 km/h, will be on display. General Motors will exhibit the California Camaro [ROC pro- totype; distinguished by its exten- sive use of glass, and its in- novative gullwing door that pulls up at a 45° angle to the front of the car. Also from General Motors, the concept Pursuit will display Pon- tiac’s aggressive approach to aerodynamic body shape and their attention to comfort and control in the driver-oriented interior. Ford will feature their car of the future, the Ghia Via. This four-door sports car for the year 2000 was designed in Geneva and employs fibre optic technology that makes the instrument panel appear to float in front of the driver. Rare specialty cars will be found throughou: the Concourse Level. The Panther-6 Series 1 automobile will be at the show courtesy of the Panther 6 Motor- car Company Lid. Differences range from its six wheels and futuristic body style to its lux- urious interior detail and open roadster top. The Electric Vehicle Association will display an array of electric cars including a running 1912 Detroit Electric and a converted 1980 Ford Escort and 1980 Dodge Omni. Also on the Concourse Level 2, patrons will find hundreds of quality automotive products and services to augment the style, comfort, safety, and care of their vehicle. Exhibits of alternative fuels, sound systems, tires, rims, wheels, parts, accessories, cleaning systems, and detailing ideas will! offer innovative aftermarket op- tions. There will be plenty of contests to enter and prizes to win. Patrons can enter to win a 1991 Nissan NX Coupe 1600 with T- Bar roof courtesy of the Auto Show and the Nissan Automobile Company. Petro Canada will hold 10 draws -—- one each day of the show — for 1,000 litres of free Maximum gasoline. The Van- couver Opera will be selling a limited number of tickets to win the 1991 Jaguar on display at their exhibit. Also on the Concourse Level, the Vancouver Playhouse will of- fer tickets for the Jeep YJ Renegade, featured in their display, and two early bird draws for $1,000 Show hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m; Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Monday to Thursday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission, including GST, is $7 adults and $5 for seniors and stu- dents (14 years and under). Dis- count coupons, available at Petro Canada stations and Automobile Dealers' Association of Greater Vancouver members’ showrooms, will reduce admission prices by $1.
