The downside, and there always is one, is answer- ing a lot of silly ques- tions. “People come in with their insurance ° expired and ask, ; doesn’t ICBC give you any grace peri- ! od?” offers Heather McPherson of McPherson Insurance in the 100-block of East l4th., North Vancouver. She has been around insur- ance her whole life and as her name suggests, she works at a family — business. In face, McPherson Insurance has been in business since 1952 when her grandfather set up shop half a block away. As for the grace period query, the answer, said McPherson, is a big fat NO! EAST 1 Between the covers After 15 years in catering, Mary Trentadue wanted and needed a change. Deciding to make a change was the easy part, figuring our her new direction was a little harder. Eventually she came up with the idea of opening a book- store and 32 Books Company was born. “I love books and this way I don’t have co buy any,” said Trentadue. Although she’s originally from Vancouver, she decided on the North Shore as the most suitable location for her enterprise. “This area has a good feel — this street in particular,” said Trentadue. “There’s something about Lonsdale. There’s such a mish- mash.” Patricia McCaulley has been in business since August 1996 when she opened Gipsy’s Gifts and Coilectibles. “} don’t know what made me do this — it was sort of seur of the moment,” said MecCaullev. “My first job here was free- lance medeling then I wanted something more secure which turned out to be an office and now here | am.” The items in her store come from a variety of sources includ- ing auctions and consignment goods. “And I've been to the odd flea market as well,” she added. There’s no Insurance ly questions Short cuts After spending more than half a decade in the same field, Luc Pasquale knows as much about cutting hair as anyone. ‘The 62-year-old barber was born in Italy, but made his way to the new world at the age of 26. He continued in his chosen trade © and upon mastering the lan- guage, was ready to pick up where he left off. “Some people like to talk and some people don’r talk, that’s why I got the TV — I let the TV do the talking,” said Pasquale pointing to a_ late model big screen taking up a nearby cor- ner.
