Lanskail leaves a legacy

THE estate of former
West Vancouver mayor
Don Lanskail recently
contributed $25,000 to
the West Vancouver
Foundation.

The money is carmarked
for an endowment fund to
help realize the development
of a continuous walking, route
from Cleveland Dam, down
along the Capilano River and
along the watertront west to
Dundarave Pier.

RCMP seek witnesses
in alleged cop rough-up

THE North Vancouver
RCMP staff sergeant
who is in charge of an
internal investigation
into an alleged “after-
cation” between police
and Wayne Chan is ask-
ing for witnesses.

Staff Sgt. Ron Babcock
would like to speak to a
woman in a white Honda who
stopped and asked what was
going on, according to Chan.

An incident occurred on
Feb. 6 at 3:30 am. when
Chan was pulled over by
police at Dollarton Highway
and Riverside Drive.

Chan, 34, of Burnaby,
alleges that he was struck and
verbally abused by two
Mounties for no apparent rea-
son Subsequent media
reports have repeatedly sug-
gested the incident involved
racism. One of the Mounties
involved in the incident, like
Chan, is a member of a racial
minority. The police officers
denied Chan’s allegations that

complaints about police con-
duct in B.C. involve internal
