Premier Glen Clark
may have struck a popular
(election) chord banning
“Extreme Combat" from
the PNE, but perhaps he
inadvertently displayed
the sort of one-man dicta-
torial government we can
expect if he is returned to
power.

Which, in that turn of
events, may give us good
reason to be thankful that
British Columbia is a
province and not a coun-
try unto itself.

and we will all celebrate
Mather’s Day. but did) you
know it's also ME Awareness
Day and the start of ME
Awareness Week?

{ didn’t know anything
about ME (myalgic enceph-
alomyelitis) until | got it.

Imagine fecling tike you
have a combination of the flu,
a really bad hangover,
painful, aching muscles and a
brain which shorts out when-
ever it feets like it. Now
imagine working, looking
after your kids or socializing
with friends. It ain’s fun or
easy, [tell ya!

There's no known cause,
ho known cure and no partic-
ularly effective treatment,
Many doctors and the general
public continue to deny the
existence of this illne:

Well. for us that’s like not
believing in UFOs when
there's one sitting in your
front yard quashing your aza-
leas. it's real and it's devastat-
ing. This illness often causes
us to lose our jobs, marriages,
houses, self-esteem and, even
more tragically, sense of
humor (mine is intact last
time i checked anyway).
