By Layne Christensen Community Reporter ‘ The future of the dance school is uncertain following the YMCA's ‘decision to terminate the tease on its ‘West Vancouver facility at 1735 Inglewood Ave. ; Anna Wyman School of Dance sub-leases 5,000 square feet of space ‘from the YMCA. The school was served notice in January to vacate the premises by Aug. 31: The: former, Inglewood school’ is owned by the West Vancouver School District (WVSD). WVSD had leased it to the municipality of West Vancouver, which in turn licensed it to the YMCA, When it became necessary to complete building renovations in excess of $300,000. both the munici- pality and the YMCA decided to ter- minate their agreements. The decision puts Anna Wyman in a difficult spot. “This (the North Shore) is where we've been for 25 years.” said Wyman, “We're North Shore people and this is where we want to keep the dance studio.” The school continues to search for another suitable location on the North Shore said partner Neil Wortley. Anna, Wyman, whose students range in age from 2 ¥ to 65, teaches a variety of disciplines including dance jazz, modern, ballet, musical theatre ‘and tap. The school has operated at the Inglewood location for the past 15 years, Wortley said he’d like to see the - Inglewood site remain open. With the closure of the building, other pro- grams and services such as a popular youth drop-in centre are being forced to relocate. But Ken Haycock, chairman of the West Vancouver School Board, said the building, in its present condi-’ tion, is unsuitable for community use. Tene aka s a gee “It's a firetrap,” he said, “The major issue is that the fire marshall believes the building is unsafe," Haycock said.
