Hockey registration set REGISTRATION FOR the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association (NVMHA) has been set for this Saturday, June 26, from noon to 3 p.m., at the curling rink of the Lonsdale ‘Recreation Centre (123 East 23rd). Applications for new member- ships will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. There are a limited number of openings in. most. divisions and those with ‘accepted applications will be notified by telephone by the end of July. Those applica- tions that cannot be accommodated this year will be’ placed on a - perpetual waiting list. The NVMHA has anticipated the increase in demand for minor hockey on the North Shore. It has spent the last three years lobbying the municipalities for additional ice surfaces in North Vancouver. District Council recently an- nounced they would seek pro- posals from the private sector to build a two- to four-rink compiex in the Seymour area. “We are going to have an even bigger waiting list this year,’’ said NVMHA president Dan Morrison. “We get several calls every day from parents wanting to register their kids in hockey.’’ Morrison added that after fin- ding a way to deal with a lot of upset parents and kids, the major objective of this year’s executive will be to keep up the pressure on the Recreation Commission and District Council to get a new arena built as soon as possible. “Even if the district’s strategy for a privately run facility gets the green light, we’ve been told that the earliest date for a new arena would be September of 1995,’’ the new president reported.
