FASHION Colors inspired by flora and fauna AT A recent European sport fash- ion show in Munich, there were a number of different trends, themes, colors and details throughout the collections, but the two trends that dominated the whole show were the importance of the environmenv.and the fun of Pop art, — The nature and ecology trend of the new decade seems to be more than a fad. The conspicuous and osten- tatious looks of the past decade have taken a back seat to the pure and practical. The color buzzword is no longer neon. Color is now inspired by flora and fauna. The inspiration can come from the tropics to the great North _ American outdoors. The tropics influence batik prints using a whole series of ethnic and ecology mixtures on multi-purpose aerobic and active wear. The trend for worn or weathered fabrics and colors is a key for the outdoor fashions. Certain designers are creating a new connection between leisure and the environment by using a more humorous approach. En- vironmental cartoons were displayed on tennis wear and walk wear. Pop Art from the '60s and ‘70s are bold and beautiful on lycra aerobic wear, and 20th century ar- tists inspire print design on everything from tennis wear and multi-sport. Geometric and patched prints in typical Pucci or *60s colors were used in big repeats for logo block- ing. After Pucci, the newest big influence coming up is from Sonia Delaunay and lesser-known pop artists. Loeffler, Triumph and Repetto used these print ideas beautifully on aerobic wear. Filigree effects feature fine art by using computer graphics to create small-scale mosaics, kalei- doscopes, engravings and pop art done on acrobic wear, tennis wear and active wear. Picasso, Rauschenberg and Cocteau are the new sport all- stars for some print inspiration. Lithos, woodcuts and collages, the playthings,of some major 20th century artists add cultural impact to simpie, functional items such as swimwear and running wear. Summer ’92 will see sports fash- ions communing with nature and art — and ali will be comfortable, casual and fun. Know the shape of your face before choosing From page 14 with little definition in the jawline or cheekbones. Squared frames, geometrics, slender oblongs or aviator frames will elongate this face shape. A frame which creates an ob- vious ‘line such as a horizontal straight bar will break the circle-in half. If you like the look, em- phasize it with round frames. Heart-shaped face On a heart-shaped face, the widest area is the forehead, nar- rowing down to a slightly pointed chin. A frame with a horizontal top bar and rounded lenses or slightly triangular shaped frames will help balance the shape. Since the heart-shaped face is very becoming, consider em- phasizing it. Do so with bow- shaped sunglasses which are smaller and contoured in the cen- tre near the bridge with both top and bottom edges fanning out- ward. Oblong face Oblong faces are longer with a high forehead and a_ slightly squared chin. This shape looks best with a wide, larger frame which cuts the length of the face THEATRICAL MAKEUP AND DANCE SUPPLIES Pre-Inventory S A L E 20 - 75% OFF ¢ JUNE 1-15 DANCEWEAR - MAKEUP -~- COSTUMES & ACCESS. However, if you have a small oval face, avoid dramatic square or diamond- shaped frames which tend to be overpowering.
