NV soccer players heading for Cuba TWO NORTH Vancouver soccer players will play at the Pan-Am Games in Cuba for the Canadian men’s under-17 soceer (eam. Defenders Nicholas Berg and Gareth Morgan, both 17, have left for the Aug. 2-18 Games which will see more than 4,000 athletes from 39 countries compete in 32 events. A member of the Vancouver 86ers Reserve, Berg was selected to the national under-17 team in 1988 for CONCACAF Champian- ships, where Canada placed third, and again in 1989 for the World Under-17) Championships in Scotland where Canada finished 16th overall. Playing for Shore the North Seleets, this is Morgan's first selection to the Canadian national team. He has also played cight seasons with North Vancouver United in the metro league. In addition to playing soccer, Morgan received the B.C. Track and) Field) Achievement) Award from 1983 to 1986 for being the top B.C. athlete in his age group. Most recently, Berg and Morgan joined the under-t7 na- tional team in the Gillette Cup tournament in Kelowna.
