F'ASHION Windsor student named Miss Teen Vancouver A SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD stu- dent from Windsor Secondary will be winging her way to the Miss Teen Canada Pageant after win- ning the Miss Teen Vancouver title Monday night. Chosen from 24 Lower Mainland contestants, Michelle Hutchinson was crowned at Cen- tennial Theatre, winning a $1,200 Modea Modelling course, a $500 photogrzphy package and a shot at the national title. **Needless to say, she’s just one of the greatest things. They made a good choice,” said pageant orga- nizer Gertie Todd. The 5°5"* hazel-eyed ash blonde will be leaving for Toronto Feb. 26 in the company of chaperons and Miss Teen counterparts from Dun- can, Nanaimo, Prince George, Victoria and Tumbler Ridge. Hutchinson will be vying with 41 contestants for the Miss Teen Canada 1990 title as well as the Miss Teen Fitness Award, a $2,000 scholarship, and a talent contest. “This little girl, I think, will br- ing back the fitness award. She’s unbelieveable,’’ Todd enthused. Hutchinson's interests include dancing, judging and coaching gymnastics, cheerleading and choreography. This is the second time in Todd’s ten years of organizing Miss Teen Vancouver that a North Shore girl has won. In 1985, Alyson Phelan, also from Windsor, went to Miss Teen Canada. Sponsored by the Avalon Hotel, Hutchinson was crowned in front of an audience of nearly 500. Sur- rey’s Casey Neal, 17, was named Miss Personality and Christy Vael, 16, of Delta was named Princess. Both girls are from North Delta Senior Secondary. Todd said this year was the most successful Miss Teen yet. But she's already thinking of upgrading the pageant for next year. a 5 : ““Myself, I'd like to see some NEWS photo Heather Johnston §~— scholarships here.
