Hollyburn ‘club
hosts Air Canada
badminton finals.

West Vancouver native Claire
Backhouse-Sharpe among them —
-will play off in. the Air Canada
-Graadprix Finals to be played at
‘Hollyburn Country Club this com-
hing weekend.

Current national women’ 5 “dou-
bles and mixed doubles champion,
Backhouse-Sharpe will be joined in
the event by Vancouver's Heather
Ostrom, new under-19 champ.

A total of $7,000 in’ prize money
will be given away-at tournament
finials, for which, players qualify
through standings in:'a series of
cross-Canada matches.

Being played ‘at the newly
revamped Hollyburn facilities, the
tournament is expected to be‘just
the first of many such events to
come to the West Vancouver club.

With the addition of three new
courts —~ bolstering the total
courts to six — the club will next
host the Clarkson Cup this fall for
top under-2) players from On-
tario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan,
Alberta and British Columbia.
