Aside from being broke,
one of the reasons I didn’t go
along was that I had a hunch
that the group would be
mostly men - sort of a “boy's
night out.” It wasn’t. There
were plenty of well-heeled
ladies along.

The M.G.M. is quite a
ways out of downtown Reno,
where most of the casinos
are located. This gives them
somewhat of a monopoly on
your six hundred bucks -
which, my dear, is the object
of the exercise. If you like
cozy little clubs like Jim
Kelley’s Nugget, you
probably won't feel at home
in the M.G.M. - their
showroom alone holds 2,300
people.

Brian had no complaints:

about the gambling tables.
“They let you double down
on anything” he chortled,
and went on to tell me some
horror stories about the
twelves and fourteens that
came to life when the dealer
broke.

Probably .what saved his
bacon was the time they
spent at the famous “Hello
Hollywood Hello” show. The
dinner presentation was sold
out before they arrived but
the midnight cocktail show
had vacancies. One problem
- you have to start lining up
at 10:30 which cuts into your
time.

Although the show has
been touted as one of the

Brian caught it too.
