Gone are the schocigirl-proper shetland sweaters and pleated tar- tan skirts, replaced by trendy, scroll-print leggings, short stretch skirts in black and white hounds- tooth and cosy wool mock tur- tles. Marks & Spencer has taken a global approach to design this fall. In-house designers have shopped the world, gathering top trends and the newest yarns, fabrics and trims, to bring a new international slant to the fashions carried in 40 Canadian M & S stores including the Park Royal South location. Tailored blazers, Chanel- inspired jackets, crisp shirts and classically tailored skirts and pants in lipstick red, black and white can be mixed with other separates in charcoal, cream, heather grey, gold and deep bottle green. Solids can be coordinated with houndstooth, checks, fashionable tartans and animal prints. Classic golfd-buttoned and double-breasted blazers in navy, cherry red and black fine wool are reasonably priced at from $165 to $220. These can be coordinated with straight or box-pleated skirts ($58-$80). For a softer touch, single-but- toned mouflon jackets are shaded in delicate tones of buttercup, tulip pink, pale coral, muted red and warm honey. The simple shift dress ($70- $125), an undisputed classic, has been updated and introduced in this fall's new brights (brilliant green, shocking pink) and black and white. Available in both short and long sleeves, the shift dress in soft crepe or cool wool is perfect for wear under jackets or on its own. A new line of cotton-lycra Linda Rasmussen owner/manager bodywear is perfectly suited to this season’s bedy-conscious styles. Bodysuits and unitards ($35-$70) in scoop necks and tur- tles can be slipped on under jackets, shirts, dresses and skirts. Marika Perms & Colours Technician forinerly of Beverly Ball Hair Design Marks & Spencer rounds out the line with big shirts in solids and Hermes-inspired patterns, side-zip ski pants and imported toggle-buttoned coats. Accessorize with belts, purses, shawls, gloves and lycra pantyhose to complete the look with one- stop shopping convenience. Marika is now back in Vancouver doing perms aad eolours.
