M@ Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan produced and mixed by Bally Sagoo — Afagic Touch kkk* (Music Club) A reissue of Bally Sagoo’s Bollywood reworkings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Qawwali music. Nusrat had already . opened the traditional music of North India to modern influences before Bally Sagoo got hold of the tapes. His musical family trace their genealogy back to the six- teenth century mystic musi- cian Haji Ma’Roof. Nusrat, who died in August of 1997, recorded more than 100 albums in the Punjabi language. He aiso worked on film soundtracks with rock musicians such as Peter Gabriel and Eddie Vedder. Birmingham DJ Bally Sagoo used Nusrat’s music for Magic Touch, part of a series of remix albums he made for the Oriental Star Agency. James Brown, Latin disco, North Indian classical music and Punjabi poctry are combined to great effect in this brilliant collection.
