WELL, the wind of change blew through aif three local municipal halls last Saturday sweeping several incumbents before it and leaving the hopes of several high-profile candidates lying in the dust. And all three elections were coloured to some degree by controver- sy, West Vancouver once again elected the slate chosen by the West Vancouver Citizens for Good Government and bid adieu to Mayor Pat Boname, Coun. Russ Fraser and former councillor Andy Danyliu — all casu- alties of a four-way race for mayor. North Vancouver City saw incumbent councillor Barbara Sharp survive a last-minute, but serious, conflict of interest allegation to wit convincingly over former councillor Rod Clark. But North Vancouver District was the site of the most unusual development in local politics for many years. Deep Cove and Dollarton home owners banded together to endorse an NPA-style slate of candidates who agreed to oppose waterfront development. Moncy and advertising carried the day.
