Shore (FSNS).

The tournament,

Club, raised $25,000 jor the

ings donated by Buschlen-
Mowatt Fine Arts and a 27”
television donated by Future
Shop.

The winning team includ-
ed Mo Larson, Spencer
Schrump, Doug Sherwood
and Eboo Keshani.

NORTH Vancouver
District council will join
with other local govern-
ments to help to clean
up the waters of Indian
Arm

Council unanimously
endorsed a proposal made by
Coun. Glenys Deering-Robb
last Monday to establish a uni-
form sewage discharge policy
for the areas of Indian Arm
which 2/¢ not municipally ser-
viced,

The Greater Vancouver
Regional District’s Electoral
Areas Conimittée has recom-
mended .a number of policics
for inclusion in the region’s
Liquid Waste Management
Plan (LWMP).

Belcarra council, responsi-
ble for some of the eastern side
of the Arm, had suggested in a
letter to the district that a uni-
form sewage discharge policy
be adopted by adjacent munic-

have been identified for consid-
eration and inclusion in the
LWMP:

gies and demonstrate that such
land based options are non-
viable solutions prior to any
consideration of sewage efflu-
ent discharge into an adjacent
water body;
@. permit as the minimum
acceptable level of treatment
for properties in “isolated”
jocaticns having neither BC
Hydro service or road access, a
properly designed septic tank
that provides treatment of
domestic sewage prior to efflu-
ent discharge required to be in
accordance with standards stip-
ulated in the new Waste

“raw” untreated domestic
sewage to the marine /aquatic
environment under all circum-
stances;

§ require property owners dis-
charging to the aquatic envi-
ronment to obtain discharge
permits from the appropriate
jurisdiction;

require property owners dis-

charging or proposing to dis-
charge effluent into an adjacent
water body to obtain a “water
body” casement for the place-
ment and maintenance of 2 dis-
charge cuifall pipe, from the
appropriate jurisdiction;

& where the authority having
jurisdiction for sewage dis-
charge or, sewage disposal is
other than the local govern-
ment, and where the bylaws or
policies of the local govern-
ment stipulate standards or
requirements higher than those
of the authority having jurisdic-
tion, then the authority having
jurisdiction will make best
efforts to issue approvals which
comply with requirements.
