Accused constab!e praised Dear Editor: Pm writing regarding the story in the North Shore News on Friday, Feb. 19. 1 don’t know exactiy what te sav about the story FP read entitled “RCMP officer fie- ing drug trafficking charges.” This is one of the only stories in the North Shore News that has ever touched me; the reason this happened is because of my friendship with officer (Scott) Simpson. IE have known Const. Simpson for about three vears and at first 1 didn’t really like him because of what he was but over time | have learned to respect him for who he ts. Not only is he a great cop but he is a great friend He always seemed to be there when you needed sameane to talk to or when you were afraid. He would often come down to the yeuth centre J used to go to with his white German shepherd to check on us and make sure we were OK and staying our of trou- ble. I have learned to crust him as a friend and as a cop. Const. Simpson helped you to make the right decisions. Without him [ think a lot of kids would be way worse off then they are now. FT want him to know haw much he really has helped us and this was the only way I knew how to show him we care. No matter what the out- come of his trial, F want him to know } will stand beside him and will scill respect him as a friend and asa great cop. Jaimie-Lea Markle, age 17 North Vancouver Seymour park not needed Dear Editor: About 14% of the Lower Mainland is already protect- ed in parks —- no small feat for such a heavily urbanized area. What we don’t have much of in’ this part of B.C. are areas where integrated fand use, ranging from reereation to forestry, | can be researched, refined — and demonstrated to the public. Turning the Seymour Demonstration Forest into a park (“Seymour forest status debated,” Feb. 10 News) would eliminate one of the few nearby areas where this takes place. We've struck a good bal- ance in the Seymour, creat- ing a well-used recreation area that also accommodates forest management. Lower Mainlanders should thiuk owice before they sever this innovative and important link to the resource sector on which our economy is built.
