Assaulter pays dental bill 44-YEAR-OLD | West Vancouver man was recently _Tequired to pay $3,168.65 worth of dental bills in connec- tion with an assault conviction involving a woman. Rand Michael Bard was found guilty of assaulting the woman on Dec. 11, 1993, in West Vancouver. Besides having to pay the dental costs. Bard was required to pay $132.82 in ambulance charges asso- ciated with the incident. According to a July 10, 1994, News story, the charge stemmed from an incident in which one of two friends play-fighting near the Avalon Hotel parking lot was hit from behind with a bottle by a third man. The North Vancouver victim recognized his assuilant as Kirby. according to the North Vancouver RCMP. The incident occurred at 2:30 a.m, as the friends were leav- ing the hotel's L.A. Tavern Pub. The police said the victim need- ed five stitches to close his wound. The previous month, a B.C. Supreme court jury deliberated one full day before acquitting Kirby of the stabbing death of a Burnaby resident, Darren James Ford. Ford, 21, bled to death on a Robson Street sidewalk after being knifed on Nov. 14, 1992. Kirby’s lawyer argued the charge involved mistaken identity.
