Nosays that recycling facilities should alse be provided in existing huildings. The T6-member sub-committee, composed of representatives trom the recycling industry, waste haulers, waste generators, educa: tion institutions and government, was established to assist in) pro- moting IC! findustrial, commercial, institutionall recycling, The ICI sector generates, 60% -- about 750,000 tonnes - of the region's waste annually. Another 500,000 tonnes annual- ly comes from construction and temolition waste. The sub-con- mittee says that before receiving a demolition permit the applicant should be required to provide a waste management plan tor han- dling the material. it also recommends thai some materials generated trom the ICI sector should be banned from disposal in landfills because they can be recycled. The first to be banned should be cardboard, it says. Because the ICI sector is not covered by the municipal residen- tial waste collection system, the cast for the programs would be paid directly by the generator. Pitch in this week!
