Youths

CHESS PLAYERS as young as six and as old as [8 are eligible to play
the B.C. Championship in their age group at the Park Royal Shopping
Mall in West Vancouver, Oct. 20 and 21, where some 60 young players
are expected to compete.

Winners in the junior (under-!9) and cadet (under-15) competitions
will represent B.C., with a majority of expenses paid. at the Canadian
Championships in December and March respectively.

There are prizes in chess equipment up to third and fourth places for
al! age classes, including under-{0 and under-eight.

Junior chess championships set for this weekend at Park Royal Shopping Centre

In the championship’s four-year history, the strongest: players have
come from Armstrong, Merritt, Victoria, Ganges and Quathiaski Cove,
as wells the Lower Mainland.

All participants will play at feast three games, and will receive a na-
tional chess rating.

The event is co-sponsored and funded by Park Royal merchants and
the B.C, Chess Federation. Cost is $8. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m,
on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Park Royal North.
