23 - Friday, October 9, 1987 - North Shore News Contest a blooming NORTH SHORE gardens were a blooming delight for the North Shore Gardens 87 contest judges assigned the plea- surable task of choosing, from among 97 gardens entered, the fairest man and nature had to offer locally this year. The contest culminated in a re- cent evening awards ceremony held in the Tamarack Room at the Delbrook Community Centre. Twenty-eight gardens were judged over the summer in West Vancouver, 36 in North Vancouver District, and 33 in North Van- couver City. The judges included volunteers from the Delbrook Garden Club and the West Vancouver Garden Club, chief horticulturist Gordon Ramsdale of the City of North Vancouver, and District of North Vancouver park superintendent Dirk Oostindie. The various categories included large commercial, small commer- cial, residential vegetable gardens, small space residential, city lot size residential, and large space resi- dential as well as several special awards of recognition.
