Festiva! THE ASIA Pacific Festival this year will feature a special program highlighting Asian and Native Ca- nadian role models. The program has been developed to instill pride in Asian and Native Canadian young people, and to in- troduce the general public to the experiences of Asians and Natives growing up in Canada. focuses on seven men and women who have achieved a high level of success in their chosen fields. These Asian and Native Cana- dian role models will be featured in two separate half-day pres- evtations in conjunction with the festival, on June 24 and 25, 1987. The program is fully sponsored by several government agencies and private sector organizations, but free tickets must be arranged to feature ro formance by the Spirit Song Native Theatze Company and will involve a panel discussion aided by film clips, followed by a question period and an informal reception. The seven role medels are: Dr. Roy Miki, a Simon Fraser Univer- sity professor born of Japanese- Canadian parents during World War Two; Ms. Alexina Louie, a third-generation Chinese Canadian who is one of Canada’s foremost 45 ~ Wednesday, June 10, 1987 - North Shore News Canada’s leading artist potter; John Kim Bell, a native Canadian and world-class orchestra leader; Mr. Justice W.T. Oppal, whose parents immigrated from Punjab, India; Tan Nguyen, a banker born in South Victnam; and Moe Sihota, NDP MLA from Duncan, B.C. the first Indo-Canadian ever elected to a Canadian legislature.
