TWO. cou RSES OFFERED Easton kicks off soccer classes JIM EASTON, the Vancouver Whitecap’s first couch, is gearing up bis Jim Easton Soccer Academy for its sixth season, One of the area's most successful summer soccer schools, the academy has been a sell-out every year on the North Shore. Courses are restricted to 15 players each. Two courses will be besed at North Vancouver’s Kilmer Park. Course A runs from July 7 to 11 between 9:30 a.m. and 12 noon every day, while course B runs the same dates from | p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Easton, with more than 20 years pro experience gained in Scovland and the North American Soccer League, conducts all training sessions. Pointing out that youth soccer is as much for the players’ enjoyment as for developing their skills, Easton stresses fairness, sportsmanship, team spirit and enjoyment in his courses as well as technique. Concerned about the current pressure to win in youth sovcer, Easton says he is determined to emphasize the enjoyment and skill development of each individual for the player’s benefit. Run for charity FOR 3, 000 runners the weekend of June 21 will be a chance to run for those who can’t in the seventh an- nual Labatt's Lite 24-Hour Relay for the B.C. Lions Society for Crippled Children. Last year, 150 teams of 20 run- ners raised $430,000 in the event, which is the largest single fund- raising function tor the society. The run starts at,10 a.m.. June 21 and ends 24 hours later. Team runners take turns cover- ing a 2.5-mile course from Swangard: Stadium . around . Bur- naby’s Central Park, with each group trying to accumulate as many miles as possible during the 24 hours. Kong shoots for Canada NORTH VANCOUVER’S Susan Kong has been selected to repre- sent the, Royal Canadian Army Cadets (RCAC) in the British Commonwealth Rifle Competition to be held July in England.
