the beat

FOR THOSE who love to move to
the beat, the North Vancouver
Recreation Centre is offering a
variety of programs in dance in-
struction for both young and old.

Pam and Aussie Sinnott will be
teaching a ‘‘Latin American
Workshop” on March 1, from 12
to 4 p.m. in the Capilano Room.

Instruction will include simple
variations in the Cha-cha, Rumba,
Samba and Jive.

For the younger crowd, ‘Jazz
Dance’’, for ages 8-12 will be held
Tuesdays and Fridays, to March 21
in the NVRC’s Capilano Room.

Taught by instructor Olive Pit-
man, the program includes theatri-
cal style dancing, basic jazz steps,
balance, co-ordination and grace,
“with the emphasis on personal
expression and fun’’.

Level I Jazz Dance runs from
3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Level II
Jazz Dance runs from 4:30 to 5:30

p.m.

Adults wanting to experience the
joy of jazz are invited to par-
ticipate in the ‘Jazz Dance — An
Introduction’’, which will be held
on Wednesdays and Fridays, to
March 21, from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.
in the NVRC Capilano Room.

The class, also taught by Olive
Pitman, is designed for ail levels,
from those with some previous ex-
perience to those who’ve never
tried it, but wished they had. Con-
cepts explored include natural
movement, basic jazz steps and
developing co-ordination, balance,
flexibility and grace.
