Land claims non-negotiable

Dear Editor:

Indian land claims are
unbelievable in B.C. They are all
take and no give. Half the pro-
vince turned over gratuitously. No
property or other taxes, But health
care, education and welfare ser-
vices to be provided as usual.

Think of it. If all B.C. Indian
land claims are recognized, five per
cent of the population will control
half the province’s real estate.

Ethnic origin will determine who
are the ‘‘haves’’ and who are the
“*have nots’’. Intolerable in a
country with a brand new Charter
of Rights and Freedoms stressing
equality regardless of origin, race,
color or creed.

Discrimination along ethnic lines
is anti-democratic. It is uncons-
cionable in a country which
Stresses human rights and equal
treatment under the law. Faced
with these demands the Bennett
government has to stand firm. ©

ferent nations warring in the body
of a single State’’.
