Dear Editor: It was disappointing to read your report dated. July 22, 1981 “Alderman sees red over anti-bomb group”. Mr. Marcino was indeed worried that we are a highly suspect group .of people, dangering the inhabitants of this planet by suggesting that we discard our weapons, and try to find peaceful solutions to our problems. We regret that Mr..Marcino, responded in this way, but obviously he is the type of politician who hears what he wants to hear and says what is politically expedient. Dear Bditor: A solid BOOO for the ma- jority vote from West Van- couver Council in deciding to extend the days for late opening at Christmas. It seems that Council is dominated by a majority en- - that the coalition advocates unilateral or bilateral disarmament, I emphatically deny that this suggestion is to be found in the brief as Mr. Marcino claims it is. Even Mayor Loucks corrected him on that point. One of-our primary concerns is that there are now many nuclear powers, Some with unstable forms of govern-. ment for whom ouclear war would be an extension of foreign policy. We even hear members of the U.S. military establishment talking in g West which will not adopt a measure of sanity and at- tempt to reduce the com- mercial ballyhoo that precedes every Christmas. This untimely question arises because Vancouver City Council made an early Your report - leaves the reader with the inipression terms of the winnable nuclear war: The petition calls for ail nations to disarm by verifiable agreements: Our brief and petition deal with the immorality of | poverty and -hunger in. a world that spends $500 billion dollars a year on nuclear arms, and of the profits derived’ by the armament industry for whose ‘benefit? Alderman Gary Payne did not seem to consider us a threat to world safety and signed our petition on the spot. The Coalition for World decision to limit late night shopping, thereby affording the opportunity for neighboring municipalities to act wisely. The tired argument that shopkeepers don’t have to open for the evenings in Park is not ‘little known’ Dear Editor: After reading the N.S. News July 26 re: Coast Mountain Air Rescue Society wanting a “little known” park near Lynnterm for a heliport site, I thought I would see for myself whct a “little known” park looks like. Upon arriving at Harbour View Park via well marked signs in the 100 block Mountain Highway, I counted a dozen vehicles in the parking lot. Advancing along the lovely walk towards the inlet, I passed,at least two dozen people, plus some cyclists. At the end of this quarter mile walk is a viewing tower overlooking the harbour and Lynnterm. “Little known” does not necessarily mean “little used”. . “a - British Columbla Auto- mobile Association Executive Vice Presl- dent David w.
