Founded by Josef and Helena Kristlik 25 years ago, the company was initially called Howe Sound Cable. “The Lions Bay mayor asked the major companies to put in cable but nobody was willing to do so because it was a small market. But we did it,” said Helen Kristlik, the office manager who also calls her bosses mom and dad. “1' mi just happy te help out the fam- iby. In 1984, the company purchased Bowen Island Cable and ten years later sold the Lions Bay business to Shaw Cable which has, in turn, sold to Rogers. “Even though we are a small com- pany we offer the same service and we're upgrading to the internet like Rogers,” said Kristlik. As someone working for cable company, Kristlik admits to spending a fair bit of time in front of the television. “[ have to watch the programs because we have to recommend them to our customers,” she said with a smile. Call it protessional development. Pudgie not fat At 21, Giovanni: Mabrouk has already worked at "Pudgie’s Pizza for six years. Although the restaurant has changed both names and owners during his tenure, Mabiouk’s boss was and continues to be his uncle. When the old boss wanted to get out of the business, he simply sold it to another of Mabrouk’s uncles.
