Though Wednesday's day
of golf was the wettest of the
TL tournaments held to date, it
was alsa the most successtid,
said tournament chair Wendy
Lisegar-Cocchia,  vice-presi-
dent of the. Century Plaza
Horel and Spa.

“Everybody showed uo and
everything went off without a
hitch,” said the West Van resi-
dent, who musters approxi-
mately 160 volunteers in year-
round planning tor the annual
event. Money raised from the
tournament, and a silent auc-
tion and dinner at the Century
Plaza Hotel and Spa that
evening, will benefit the
Vancouver Oral Centre, a
school for hearing impaired
children.

Wednesday’s tournament
brought the total raised over

two years (0 $375,000 towards
the construction of the school,
which currently operates from
rented space in a Commercial
Drive schoolhouse.

The school is recognized as
unique in Western Canada for
its emphasis on teaching
speech-reading and listening
skills to hearing impaired stu-
dents so they can eventually
attend class in regular school.

The Variety Club is over-
seeing the $3.25 million capi-
tal campaign to construct the
new facility en Sunny Hill
Hospital property at Kaslo and
19th in Vancouver, which will
include classrooms, a library,
music centre, parents’ lounge
and suite for out-of-town fam-
ilies to stay on campus while
their children are tested.
Approximately $2.9 million
has been raised to date, with
completion set tor July 15.
