NEWS BRIEFS Dock decision pending THE FUTURE of North Vancouver-based Versatile Pacific Shipyards Snc.’s (VPSI) $60-million floating Panamax dry dock may be decided today when four VPSI creditors meet with the ailing shipbuilding com- pany. A meeting is scheduled today between VPSI officials and the provincial and federal governments, the Van- couver Port Corp. (VPC) and the Hongkong Bank of Canada. Six classes of VPSI creditors have already accepted a restructured business plan WPSI has suomitted which the company hopes will help it avoid bankruptcy. But Ottawa, Victoria, the VPC and the Hongkong Bank of Canada have yet to approve the deal. VPSI, which has said it plans to close its North Vaa- couver shipyard, is hoping to sell the dry dock to an ua- named Asian buyer for $14.8 million and, failing that, have the federal government purchase it for $7.5 million. Ottawa initially invested over $28 million in the dry dock, which the VPC and other industry shipyards and unions wast to remain in the Port of Vancouver.
