CIVILIZATIONS OF
sense-controfled, man-kill-
ing men have risen to high

points of seeming wealth
and power, only to fall
again and again without

having learned that the uni-
verse is ONE and all things
are ONE, and that ONE
LAW governs all things.

That one law upon which uni-
verse is founded is the law of
love.

Reduced to a few words, the
Teason individuals or nations or
whole civilizations fall is because
they crucify love. The cause for
the downfal! of one person is the
same as the downfall of the world
of men and women.

There is a 200-year-old cycle
(approximately) of major civiliza-
tions: from bondage to spiritual
faith; from spiritual faith to great
courage; from great courage to
freedom; from freedom to abun-
dance; from abundance to self-
ishness; from selfishness to com-
placency; from complacency to
apathy; from apathy to
dependence; and from dependence
back into bondage.

In 30 years of astrologicaily-
oriented counselling, I have never
seen any person whose basic dif-
ficuity or ‘‘negative’’ condition
did not have to do with an unwill-
ingness to confront issues directly.

As Arnold J. Toynbee, the his-
torian, once said: ‘‘Each society
progresses only to the extent that
it meets its challenges.’? The same
is true of you and me. We are
society.
