UNICNIZED WORKERS at Versatile Pacific Shipyards Inc.'s Victoria yard were scheduled Thursday to recast ballots on a company contract offer initially recommended for acceptance by union recommended for rejection. Victoria workers originatly voted Tuesday on the tentative agreement, which had been com- pleted over the weekend with the help of mediator Vince Ready and had been recommended for accep- tance bv negotiators for the 23 negotiators, but subsequently unions employed at Versatile. But on Wednesday, angry union leaders in Vancouver recommend- ed rejection of the agreement, maintaining that its tinal wording was different from what bad been agreed to over the weekend. Versatile workers employed at the company’s North Vancouver yard cast ballots Wednesday on the agreement, but neither their vote nor the re-vote of their Victoria counterparts had been counted to press time. Union representatives said Thursday the contentious work flexibility demand from Versatile had been settled in the offer, but the wording of other clauses in the agreement had not. The outstanding issues are simi- lar to those that cesulted in Ver- satile’s unions refusing to. sign their previous two-year contract with the company. That contract was ratified in Oc- tober 1988 by a 60 per cent union membership majority. It expired Aug. 3) but had never been signed by Versatile’s unions because of a disagreement over the contract’s final wording. Unions have been on strike at Versatile’s North Vancouver yard since Dec. 5. SAS AN REA SAF SNA AEE SAA RAS erts:: Sports experts’. sports experts” “sports € 60% sports ex .
