Senior soccer girls make league debut SENIOR GIRLS’ soccer has made its debut this spring as a North Shore high school sport with four schools Argyle, Carson Graham, Elphinstone and Seycove — playing a double round-robin league schedule. Carson Graham and Seycove did have teams last year, playing in a Burnaby-New Westminster league, but this is the first season there has been a North Shore league. Argyle Pipers, coached by Steve Bruno and Sam Scorda, appear to be the team to beat based on their 40 exhibition win over Carson Graham and 12-0 and 6-0 lvague victories over Elphinstone and Seycove resvectively. Left winger Angie Slee, who played for the B.C. Under-18 Select team last summer, has been the Pipers’ scoring threat with nine goals in the three games. Slee is in Grade 12. Other key players are forwards Nicele Krause and Andrea Poulton, right winger Jana Cook, defender Melissa Kuhn, sweeper Leah Reichelt, and midfielders Jenn Gardiner and Kathy Houlden (voth play community soccer for the North Shore Metros, winners of the Canadian Under-16 club championship in October). Carson Graham Eagles, coached by Alex Marden and Dave Morgan have won their two league games over Seycove 3-0 and Elphinstone Kris Brown and Christine Cor- ben, who (along with Michelle Leber) also play for the North Shore Metros, have put three each past the keepers. Fleet forward Kerri Grenon has two goals. All four are Grade 11’s. Seycove Seahawks have a young team with only forward Shella MacKenzie in Grade 12. Midfielder Catriena Morrison and defender Kristen Charieton are two standout Grade 8’s on the team. Tina Locke, a Grade 11, is also one of the Seahawk’s best. Coach is Tim Jones. Elphinstone of Gibsons joined the North Shore Secondary Schools’ Athletic Association in September, competing in a handful of sports.
