An snnouncement will ke made later this month as to whether Vancouver or Montreal will host the event early next year. Davis Cup captain Pierre Lamarche, of Ontario, will select the team from among eight Canadian players nominated so far. Tennis Canada also announced the appointment of Andre Labelle of Toronto as assistant coach and on-site manager for the Davis Cup national men’s squad. NV player makes hockey history NORTH VANCOUVER’S David Tomlinson, s sophomore centre who played for the Richmond Sockeyes two seasons ago, tied a collegiate hockey record for the most points in a game last week between Boston University and Providence College. Tomiinson had a three-goal, four-assist performance im a 12-3 Boston victory over Providence. Tomlinson leads the Hockey East school in scoring with 14 points in four games. NV bowler vies for position NORTH VANCOUVER’S Kip Smith will join 81 other bowlers next weekend to vie for qualifying spots on CBC’s Sportsweekend Championship Five-pin Bowling show. Bowling in Surrey and Langley, the bowlers have a chance at winning in a prize poo! of more than $43,000, including a top prize of $25,000 for the champion. If he is successful, North Shore Sports Bowl bowler Smith could join B.C. champion Terry MacKay of Port Coquitlam in repre- senting B.C. on the TV show. The.B.C. contender will face Canadian five-pin open champion and southern Ontario champion Ian Cameron on the TV show slated for airing Feb. 4, 1989. Swimmer returns with medals NORTH VANCOUVER swimmer Lee Grenon returned from Seoul, South Korea, recently with two gold medals and one bronze he won in the 1988 Paralympic Games. Joining 27 other disabied B.C. athletes, Grenon as he predicted captured the top spot in the 100-metre butterfly competition, his strongest event. As weil as the gold in 100-metre butterfly, the visually impaired swimmer also raced to gold in 400-metre freestyle and bronze in 400-metre IM. : Swimming first with North Vancouver’s Chena Swim Club and most recently with the UBC Masters Club, he is ranked first in Canada for a number of races. A graduate student in sociology at UBC, Grenon, 24, was also a member of the world record-setting relay team in 100-metre medley and 100-metre freestyle. “WVe’re very proud of all of the athletes from the B.C. blind feam that competed in Seoul,’’ said Jim Marvel, executive director of the B.C.
