Scuba diving popularity rises

ONCE THOUGHT to be a sport
only for the wealthy, scuba diving
has recently come down in price
and opened up to more people,
says a local scuba shop cwner.

“Best of all,’’ explained Bob
Martin of. Mako Sport, Divers in
North Vancouver, ‘‘because of a
very competitive market in Van-
couver, diving lessons are less ex-
pensive here than anywhere else I
know of in the country.”’

Diving lessons — which typically
feature classroom instruction, pool
sessions and ocean dives — give
beginning divers the knowledge
