NV pioneer celebrates
one hundredth birthday

ONE OF North Vancouver's pio-
neers turned 100 today.

Ella Douglas Hanes, who was
married to a former North Van-
couver mayor, will be celebrating
with her family and friends at
Beacon Hill Lodge.

Her husband, George Samuel
Hanes, served as mayor in 1913,

"1915 and 1916. He also served as

MLA from 1916 to 1924.

Ella is a long-time member of
St. Andrew’s United Church, a life
member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary at
Lions Gate Hospital and a member
of the Canadian Daughters
League, assembly number 12.

She has three daughters: Evelyn
Peterson of Calgary, Marion
Knowles of Victoria and Dorothy
Symington of Quesnei. She also
has seven grandchildren and four
