Perhaps the most delicate issue addressed during ques- tion period concerned whether independent schools have the right to use excess facilities in the public school system. The issue has recently surfaced as a sore point in the North Vancouver School District. Heinrich refused to take sides in the matter. **You have to remember that school boards have charge of their own assets and it is their right to decide how to handle the disposition of their facilities,’’ he said. “If the school board sees enrolment declining with the kids going to independent schools, then the revenue is going there instead of into the public school system... . It’s really not for the provin- cial government to intervene regarding the views of the board, but the school board must pay heed to the demographics of the com- munity.
