For North Shore residents a new chance to-do just that opens up during the last week of September and the first week of October. By December 1, hundreds of Lower Mainland cigarette smokers will have kicked the | habit, thanks to a free eight week program operated by the British Columbia Lung Association. Started five years ago by the Lung Association as a | way to help smokers through the difficult first weeks of quitting, Operation Kick It, as the program is known, has helped nearly 6,000 smokers become non-smokers since its introduction. Groups of 15 people meet once weekly, usually in the evening, to participate in the program, which claims a 60 per cent success rate.
