and 18 at Jericho Beach
Park.

Tao Ravao, Vincent Bucher —
Love Calls, Broadway Records

Love Cails sees a rollicking
blues-fuelled fusion wrought by
the energies of Tao Ravao from
Madagascar and Vincent Bucher
from France. ..

Ravao brings the spirit of
bluesman Homesick James to
traditional Malagasy instruments
— the valiha (a 15-string harp
made of bamboo) and the kabosy
(a'small guitar made from the
wood of a eucalyptus tree).

Bucher, a student of Chicago
harmonica ace Sugar Blue, has
been blowing mouth harp since
age 15.

This remarkable disc shines just

Say, Strange Pagan Recordings

lyrics, Allen talks us through the
bittersweet goods of a relationship
with a significant other.

Your Way To The Top, Little
‘Giant Records 1991

Percolating plucking abounds.
The disc is shot through with that
old skipping-along-the open-road
feei that truly fluid banjo playing
tends to generate.

. There's a new-age soft jazz feel
to a lot of the cuts. The instrumen-
tation mix includes saxophones,
clarinet and a bouncy percussive
layer of congas and bongo.

Koulack made his professional
debut at the ripe old age of 12 at
the Winnipeg Folk Music Festival,
He is also a member of Finjan, a
klezmer orchestra.
