Harry Potter books
charm over 40
million woridwide

Author J.K. Rowling was in Vancouver last
week. The News sent Windsor student
Dominique Fisher, 15, to talk to ber. Dominique
owns all four of the Harry Potter books.

THE Harry Potter book series has
amazed people all over the world.
People of all ages love to read these
wonderful books about wizards,
witches and magical creatures.

T was excited to meet the author, J.K.
Rowling, the author of these imaginative
books, at a press conference held in the
Vancouver Trade Centre.

My main question was why had she
chosen a male character as the main role?
Wouldn't it be easier to write from a
woman's point of view?

She replied that from the start she knew
Harry had to be a boy. The Harry Potter
books needed a boy to make them seem
more real. Rowling says she didn’t ever
stop to think about whether it would be
easier to write a girl, it just came to her
with Harry, a boy.

She said Hermione (one of Potter's best
friends) is based on herself. Very bookish
and smart. Unlike Hermione, though,
Joanne says she was very quiet around
strangers. She described herself as a short
girl with extremely thick, coke-bottle glass-
